What is Strength and Conditioning?

We're very excited to announce that the new Strength and Conditioning studio is finished and due to open officially in August 2022! Leading the way with our new studio are Avenue Personal Trainer Wayne Gemmell and Tennis Coach Dan Betts. Both Wayne and Dan are looking forward to seeing adults and children take advantage of this fantastic state of the art studio.

What is Strength and Conditioning (AKA S&C)?

S&C is the development of dynamic/static exercises used to improve physical performance and is now widely used by all to improve everyday physical performance. It benefits both junior and adult Tennis players by improving their power, speed, strength, endurance, stability, agility, flexibility, and accuracy.

This isn't just limited to an increase in performance on court, but in general physical preparedness, aiding both health and wellbeing.

Increasing performance is achieved by monitoring each individual athlete and their needs from an initial assessment and then periodic re-assessments to ensure they are constantly progressing towards their goals. To keep the athlete progressing, we dial in robust movement patterns first and foremost and use progressive overload principles to create the desired adaptation around them.

  • Juniors can benefit from S&C to help their long term development in sports from an early age. Tennis is a 'Long term development sport', so the introduction of S&C will help give them the best opportunities to go as far as they can within the game and beyond!!
  • Adults can benefit by developing their flexibility, mobility, stability, coordination, strength and power. Injury pre-hab/re-hab or help you participate, compete and win those all-important Ladder Matches, friendlies, league games or even top the Club Championships!!
