Pickleball League

Brand new Pickleball League!

We have launched a brand new Pickleball League!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Avenue Tennis Pickleball League. Pickleball, a fast-paced and fun sport that’s sweeping the nation, is perfect for players of all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just curious to try something new, our league offers the perfect opportunity to get involved, stay active, and make new friends.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone. This engaging sport offers a host of health benefits for players of all ages and fitness levels, including boosting your cardiovascular fitness and mental wellbeing.

The video below demonstrates the rules of a Pickleball game, so you can brush up on your knowledge before the next league starts!

See below the rules for play:
1. Each Rally commences with an underhand serve, ensuring contact below the waist and a fluid upward arc of the arm. Options include hitting the ball out of the air or allowing it to bounce before contact.
2. A point progresses until a ‘fault’ concludes the rally, indicated by:
a. Failure to clear the kitchen with the serve (including the line).
b. Hitting a shot out of bounds.
c. A shot landing in the net.
3. Volleys are prohibited in the kitchen, the front section of the court. Players must refrain from entering the kitchen before the ball has bounced and cannot allow momentum to carry them into it after a volley. Once the ball has bounced in the kitchen, entry is permitted briefly before vacating.
4. The ball must bounce on both sides of the court before either team can volley.
5. Points are only won on the serve. Following a successful point on the serve, players switch sides with their partner and serve to the opposing team.
6. Both partners take turns serving. Scores are communicated with three numbers, such as “3-3-1,” indicating a score of 3-3 with the first player serving. If the serving team loses the point, the score becomes “3-3-2,” and the other player serves. Subsequent losses by the server result in the opposing team serving.
7. The game proceeds to 11 points, with a requirement to win by a margin of 2 clear points.

Our weekly Pickleball Club Play session is the perfect way to practice and meet others. This is held every Friday evening from 7-9pm and is available to book on your Avenue App.
