World Health Day

Each year April 7th marks the celebration of World Health Day. From its inception at the First Health Assembly in 1948 and since taking effect in 1950, the celebration has aimed to create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization.

Did you know that at least half of the people worldwide do not receive the health services they need? Also, about 100 million people are pushed into extreme poverty each year because of out-of-pocket spending on health.

Here at Avenue Tennis, we would like to take this opportunity to put a different spin on World Health Day and educate our members on healthy eating.

There is no secret or myth to healthy eating, no magic pill that can make you thin overnight. It’s all base on moderation, timing and variety. Here are some quick and easy tips that may help you out!

Moderation:

  • Use smaller dinner plates/bowls – this way your meals will meal looks bigger.
  • Don't buy it! – if it’s not in the house, you won’t eat it.

Timing:

  • Reduce carbs before bed – Try to eat carbs earlier in the day or before you’re about to exercise.
Eat often – Your metabolism needs to stay active, try to eat every 3-4 hours (it can be snacking options and not main meals each time).

Variety:

  • Five a day rule! – Try to eat more vegetables than fruit; green leafy veg is the best bet!
  • Don’t eat the same every day! – If you’re trying to diet and have given yourself the same meal every day then stop! It will be more effective if you have a nice mixture, rather than the same chicken and rice dish seven days a week.
