Justin & Karle March for Men

On Sunday 8th September 2019 two Avenue members; Justin Foote and Karle Turner joined Sky Sports Presenter and Prostate Cancer UK Ambassador Jeff Stelling as he marched four marathons in four days in four nations in his quest to raise £1m to help stop prostate cancer being a killer.

In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases with age. The risk is even higher for black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer. One man will die of Prostate Cancer in the UK every 45 minutes.

Justin and Karle started the gruelling 26.2mile walk at the Olympic Stadium (West Ham United FC) taking in The Valley (Charlton Athletic FC), The New Den (Millwall FC), The Emirates (Arsenal FC) and finally finished at the New White Hart Lane Stadium (Tottenham Hotspur FC).

Justin:
"My Grandad passed away from Prostate Cancer in the ’90s, and more recently, family and close friends have been diagnosed with cancer. This April, my Dad was attending the Medway Hospital and was being tested for Prostate Cancer. Due to the fantastic support, he received; I thought it was time to give something back and raise awareness.

I started in May, walking 10miles a few times a week. By the end of August, I was walking 45miles each week; my longest walk was 22miles over a weekend. Alongside the walking, I continued with my gym sessions to get me marathon ready."

Karle:
"Justin mentioned to me when while in the gym that he had signed up for a walk in aid of prostate cancer. My late father had prostate cancer, and sadly I also have two friends who are currently at the early stages of treatment, so I didn’t hesitate in signing up!

Who said walking was easy? I continued my regular visits to the gym; getting good advice from the trainers. I also have a great personal trainer! Jess Huggins has guided me through the last seven months, giving me the confidence to achieve my goal and much more.

Outside of the gym, I walked a few miles each week plus a final 20mile walk a week before the big day. I have also found keeping to the food plan Jess provided definitely made a difference, and not forgetting a couple of massages.

The sense of achievement getting to the finish line is hard to put into words, emotionally drained, and relief would be high on the list. What will stay with me from the day was how enjoyable, helpful and friendly everyone has been."

Together Justin and Karle have been raising money and would appreciate your continued support in a bid to fund the research to change the game and stop Prostate Cancer being a killer!
