Building confidence in the gym

Most people train in the gym to see the physical effects. However, that's not all it is! Training in the gym is both physically and mentally beneficial to everyone.

Self-confidence is a well known key to success, whether that is developing a healthy lifestyle or growing a business. The constant physical and mental progression developed from training in the gym can help reinforce our self-confidence. Over several weeks of training consistently you will start to see an increase in your strength, endurance and physique. This can all help accumulate a healthier and more confident mindset, and you can take this away and apply to other aspects of your life including family life and work.

Here at Avenue Tennis we work with our members on a consistent 1 to 1 basis using our Wellness journey, helping you to attain your goals faster. The Wellness journey includes regular check-ins using our Tanita machine, as well as show and train demonstrations with your PT. This regular tracking system will help you see how you are progressing within the gym and therefore supports you in reaching your goals.

If you do suffer with “gym anxiety” and want to be more confident on the gym floor, here are some top tips to help:

Tip 1 - Have a plan when you go into the gym

  • Having an idea of what you are going to do in your session and what equipment you'll be using will help to boost your confidence. It can also make you feel more confident in areas in the gym you may not know so well. If you don't currently have a plan to follow or would like to change up your workout, you can contact a Personal Trainer directly or email info@avenuetennis.co.uk

Tip 2 - Train with someone

  • It's natural to feel more comfortable in your surroundings when you have a friend with you! Working out with a friend, family member or even a colleague is a great way to catch up whilst also reaching your fitness goals! Why not try out a fitness class with a friend?

Tip 3 - Breathe

  • Taking some deep breaths is the best way to help you calm down and overcome your fears. Try to see it like you are inhaling confidence and exhaling any doubts you may have.

Tip 4 - Have fun!

  • Going to the gym doesn't have to be a chore! Creating a fun playlist with your favourite songs or watching your favourite TV show on the treadmill or bikes is a great distraction and makes the overall experience much more enjoyable.
